Milna - "Valle di mille navi"
Milna is a small village, situated on the island of Brač, known for its harmonious and preserved traditional architecture. The most prominent feature of this place is its natural harbor whose function dates back to the year 300, that is from the time of construction of Diocletian's Palace. Even today it justifies its name given by the Venetians - "Valle di mille navi" (bay of a thousand ships) because it is still the largest, most beautiful and best-protected port of Brač.
Several marinas with tens of berths for smaller and larger vessels, have found their place here, and due to that fact Milna is frequently visited even by the most demanding sailors. In ancient times residents of Milna were shipbuilders and sailors, and their vocation reflected on the town planning, that now consists mainly of fisherman, ship-owners and captain houses from the 18th and 19th century. Milna's coast is lined by two-storey buildings, and the central place in the architecture is occupied by a Baroque church with typical Dalmatian bell tower.
We would definitely recommend a peek at its rich interior dominated by works regarding Venetian painters. As a tourist destination, Milna is the ideal place to relax, offering all the benefits of modern life, such as fast and regular connections with the mainland, as well as excellent connections to the other villages on the island. The town offers its visitors superb clean sea and air, traditional local food and drink (indigenous top quality olive oil, freshly caught fish from the Adriatic Sea, locally farmed lamb, wine made from grapes grown on the cliffs of Brač), and the relaxation from the busy everyday routine.
